Yardo/Tools/Pallets-in-Trailer Calculator
Trailer Loading Tool

How Many Pallets
Fit in This Trailer?

Estimate floor-loaded pallet capacity for common trailer footprints in a few seconds. Use presets for a fast answer or switch to custom dimensions when the trailer, pallet, or load rules are different from standard.

Fast Estimate.
Practical Inputs.

This tool is built for the quick operational answer, not a perfect loading simulation. It compares simple grid layouts so a planner, dispatcher, or warehouse lead can get to a reasonable number without opening a spreadsheet.

Inputs

Choose the footprint

Pick a preset to start fast, then edit the dimensions if your trailer or pallet is a little different in practice.

Use stacking layers only if the product can be safely double-stacked or higher as loaded.

Estimated pallet capacity

This is a fast grid-based estimate. Real capacity can change with overhang, pinwheeling, weight distribution, trailer intrusions, and loading method.

Important note
This estimate assumes uniform pallets and a clean rectangular loading footprint. Door hardware, wheel wells, pallet overhang, mixed SKUs, and loading rules can reduce the real count.
02 · Assumptions

What the Estimate
Does and Doesn't Mean

A fast calculator is only helpful if its assumptions are clear. These are the big ones behind the output.

Rectangular Footprint
The tool treats the usable trailer floor as a rectangle and the pallet footprint as uniform. Door hardware, curved walls, load bars, and other obstructions are not modeled.
Grid-Based Loading
The estimate compares straight grid layouts only. More advanced patterns like pinwheeling may fit differently, but grid math is faster and easier to trust in a live planning conversation.
Stacking Is Optional
Additional stacking layers simply multiply the floor count. Use that only when the product, packaging, and shipper rules actually allow safe stacking.
03 · Quick Reference

Common Setups.
Fast Sanity Check.

These examples assume a clean footprint and allow rotated loading when it improves the fit.

53' Dry Van + 48" x 40"
Typical best-fit estimate: 30 pallets. The rotated pattern is usually 15 long by 2 across.
48' Dry Van + 48" x 40"
Typical best-fit estimate: 28 pallets. A standard domestic trailer usually fits 14 long by 2 across.
53' Dry Van + 48" x 48"
Typical best-fit estimate: 26 pallets. Square pallets usually fill the width two across with less leftover room to optimize around.
